What has happened so far
We submitted a joint planning application to Haringey Council for a waste facility and vehicle depot for the London Borough of Barnet with the London Borough of Barnet on 31 May 2011.
With regards to our proposed waste facilities, the outline planning application provides an outline of what the site could be used for, along with the approximate scale of development and areas where buildings could be located.
If taken forward, approval of the outline application would also establish certain restrictions within which a later detailed application would have to be prepared. This is so that we can give companies who are bidding for our "Waste Services" contract to build facilities and provide services for north London after 2014 (when its contract with LondonWaste Ltd comes to an end) the flexibility to propose the most suitable and sustainable facilities possible.
With regards to Barnet’s vehicle depot, the application provides more detailed plans of the proposals, as the final overall design for these facilities is fixed.
What happens next?
The proposed submission version of the North London Waste Plan, allocates Pinkham Way as a potential waste management site. The North London Waste Plan will be subject to an ‘Examination in Public’ by an Independent Planning Inspector before it is finalised. The Examination in Public is likely to take place early in 2012 and an Inspector’s report will be available in early summer.
Following submission of our planning application for Pinkham at the end of May 2011 it became clear that it would be more appropriate for the strategic allocation of the site for waste use, as part of the North London Waste Plan, to be considered first, before a specific planning application came forward for determination on the site.
Accordingly we have agreed that the planning application at Pinkham Way will now be ‘on hold’ until the completion of the Examination in Public. Application documentation will be publicly available when the application is no longer on hold, and it has been validated by the London Borough of Haringey as the local planning authority.
