North London Not-For-Profit Organisations Paid For Reused or Recycled Materials

North London Waste Authority (NLWA) will pay not-for-profit organisations operating in north London for each tonne of material reused or recycled under its Reuse and Recycling Credits scheme. Eligible organisations must apply in advance of the next financial year. The deadline for applications for financial year 2021-22 is 13 January 2021.

The scheme recognises the role played by not-for-profit organisations in extending the life of reusable items, or ensuring that maximum value is extracted from items through recycling, as opposed to disposal. The scheme incentivises reuse and recycling by paying these organisations roughly the equivalent cost of disposing of those same items.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Chair of NLWA, said: “Not-for-profit organisations such as charity shops provide accessible, local reuse hubs right in the heart of the community. They provide a convenient way for residents to ensure that good quality items get reused, not disposed of. Through our Reuse and Recycling Credits scheme, we recognise and support this vital work.”
