Teabags sent to our ‘in vessel’ composting facility which produces PAS100 certified compost go through the composting process and any plastic residue is sieved out in the final screening. If there are micro or very small pieces that pass through the final screening official advice (from WRAP - https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/tea-bags-0 ) is that they can either be sieved out and discarded or dug in with the compost when it is used.
If teabags go to our anaerobic digestion outlet, visible plastics are removed during the process and the advice is the same as above for composting if any smaller plastic fragments are found in the end product.
