Composting at home is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into valuable nutrient-rich food for your garden.

Composting your waste for just one year can save global warming gases equivalent to all the CO2 your kettle produces annually, or your washing machine produces in three months.

If you have a garden, no matter how small, why not give composting a go? Visit our compost bin giveaways page and come along to one of our free informative events during Compost Awareness Week 2012.

Wormeries are for those who want to compost but don't have access to a garden. Wormeries are easy and fun to use: simply add your worms and then your waste food; after a few months your worms will have eaten it all and left behind a fantastic fertiliser and a nutrient-rich liquid which can be diluted for use as plant food.

For help and advice on composting and wormeries, please visit Recycle Now and their dedicated composting webpages.

How long does it take
to compost?

It will take your compost about a year to rot down, after which you’ll need to use it. It will be perfect for flower beds or tubs, or digging into your vegetable patch.
