What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
Anything that requires batteries or a plug to operate is classified as Electrical or Electronic.
WEEE is one of the fastest growing waste streams; around 1 million tonnes of WEEE is thrown away in the UK every year.
WEEE contains valuable metals, as well as plastics and other materials that can be recovered through the recycling process and then used to make new products.
How should you dispose of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment?
Broken or unwanted waste electrical items from computers to fridges, hairdryers to washing machines can be taken to your local Reuse and Recycling Centre (link).
Small electrical items such as kettles, irons, clocks, remote controls, games consoles and calculators are quite often discarded with household waste due to their small size. All of these items can be taken to your local Reuse and Recycling Centre (link) or can be placed in special on street WEEE recycling banks. There are a number of WEEE banks located in north London with more coming soon.
