Almost 1 million tonnes of rubbish is produced in North London every year (enough to fill 8 football stadiums top to bottom)
By 2020 we will be generating up to 44% more per year (that's another 4 football stadiums!)
Throwing away rubbish is expensive - by 2011 the tax alone for sending waste to landfill will be £48 per tonne - around 8 times the cost to landfill a tonne of waste in 1996.
Recycling can be the start of changes your business makes to save money and be environmentally responsible. Recycling waste is a better and often cheaper option than sending waste to landfill.
To find out about what recycling services are offered where you are please contact your local council:
Register for reuse and recycling credits
Reuse and recycling credits are paid to third parties that remove items from the municipal waste stream for reuse or recycling that would otherwise have been sent for disposal at the Authority’s expense. The value of the credit recognises the saving to the Authority made by this reuse and recycling activity.
Organisations wishing to claim credits must first complete an application form to apply to be registered to receive credits, and then following registration, must submit a quarterly claim for payment and provide evidence of the tonnage recycled or reused.
Registrations for 2010/11 are now closed. Applications for registration for 2011/12 must be submitted by Friday 17th December 2010.
Please note registration is an annual requirement.
