North London Community Fund

NLWA has established the North London Community Fund to support waste prevention initiatives in the north London area. This fund provides community-based (non-profit making) organisations with funding to develop new approaches to reduce waste and/or extend the reach and impact of existing waste prevention activity in north London.

The North London Community Fund is available to organisations that wish to present new waste initiatives to tackling waste reduction. With up to 100% funding of the project cost, support can be provided for projects up to £15,000 tackling a waste prevention problem, from an overall funding pot of £120,000.

Applications for the next round of funding will open in November 2022. We will be publishing guidance to help you prepare applications in advance soon. To be notified when this goes live please email

Organisations that previously submitted funding requests and/or have received support from the NLWA’s Community Fund in previous years may also apply for funding. To be eligible for funding, an organisation must be non-profit. The project must take place in one of the seven north London boroughs and reduce the amount of collected waste in at least one borough in north London.

More than 850,000 tonnes of waste are collected in north London every year. Much of this waste is preventable. NLWA, therefore, wants to support community-based organisations, who are keen to tackle waste in their efforts towards combatting the urgent ecological issues of our times.

The fund was established in 2017 to support initiatives in the north London area and complement NLWA’s waste prevention programme, extending the reach and impact of its waste prevention activity.
