About the project
Together with Joining Communities CIC, People for Places, and Camden Council, we are looking to improve the garden at Athlone Community Hall and transform it into a welcoming community space for both people and wildlife.
We want to help local people to:
- Spend more time outdoors and in nature
- Enjoy and care for the space
- Feel a sense of ownership
- Take positive action to protect the planet
We want to work with local residents, volunteers, and community champions to help design and build the space and understand how residents want to use and care for the space in the future.

Residents of Athlone Estate, we would like to hear your ideas about improving your garden. Your feedback will help shape future plans and ensure the garden meets the needs of the local community.
Come along to our workshops and tell us:
- What improvements you would like to see in the garden
- How you would like to use the garden
- What nature-based activities and events you would like to take part in
- How you would like to be involved in the project
Everyone is welcome to take part, and every opinion is important.
We will use your ideas to create some designs for the space which will be shown and discussed at Workshop 3.

Updates
The feedback gathered at workshop 1 and 2 and through the survey showed that residents would like to see the following features in the garden:
- Wildflower area
- Flower garden
- Places to sit
- Wildlife habitats and feeders
- Shade
- Lighting
Residents also agreed on the types of nature-based activities they would like hosted at the garden including:
- Relaxation and meditative activities
- Creating signs for the garden
- Building homes and feeders for wildlife
- Growing herbs and making herbal teas
- Celebrating the changing seasons
- Identifying and counting plants, birds and other wildlife
- Nature based art sessions
We will incorporate the feedback gathered into a visual design of the garden and share this at Workshop 3. Join us and share your thoughts on the design.
