The North London Community Fund (NLCF) has announced its grant recipients for 2026-27, with a record £250,000 awarded to north London community groups. 23 community groups will receive funding this year.
The NLCF, run by North London Waste Authority (NLWA), awards funding to non-profit organisations for projects that help prevent household waste. Grant recipients in 2026-27 include projects focused on textile waste, repair skills, composting and gardening, waste-free cooking and more.
The announcement comes after a redesign of the fund based on community feedback. Through a series of workshops and surveys, NLWA worked with the public to find ways to make the fund more accessible and inclusive. Changes included offering microgrants of under £1,500 (with four microgrants awarded this year), an improved application process, and having previous fund recipients join the assessment panel. Applicants praised the new-and-improved process, noting the guidance materials were informative, coherent and well-designed.
NLWA Chair Councillor Clyde Loakes praised the revamped fund for its increased success, saying that: “This year we’ve received a record 147 applications and have awarded over £250,000 - more than ever before. Through our newly designed fund, we’ve been able to reach an even more diverse range of north London’s fantastic community groups. We’re so excited to see the fantastic projects in action in 2026-27.”
