Report on mixed waste sorting
North London Waste Authority commissioned Eunomia Research and Consulting to explore mixed waste sorting (MWS) as an opportunity to reduce residual waste in north London, increase recycling and reduce the carbon impact of residual waste. Eunomia conducted a review of existing and planned MWS facilities globally, selecting five facilities as case studies based on applicability to NLWA and the UK context which they then used to estimate the feasibility of adopting MWS technologies in north London.
The report concludes that MWS is not currently a feasible option for managing NLWA's residual waste, however, this should be reviewed in the future when the impacts of upcoming legislation are better understood, and which may create a more or less favourable environment for MWS in England.
