Residents are invited to attend the official opening of Second Time Around – a new reuse shop in Chingford. The event is taking place on Saturday 14 November, 11am – 2.30pm at the Kings Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, 48 Kings Road, Chingford, London E4 7HR.
Style guru, interior designer and TV personality Linda Barker, along with Councillor Clyde Loakes, chair of North London Waste Authority (NLWA), will officially open the shop at 11am. Linda Barker will then be giving a talk about ‘upcycling’ and later will also be judging an upcycling competition - local residents and community groups are currently working hard on upcycling a second hand chair for Linda to judge. Food will be available free of charge at the event.Anyone is welcome to pop along to the event anytime between 11am and 2.30pm where information will also be available about minimising food waste, recycling and reuse.
The shop will also be open throughout the event for residents to grab a bargain buy. Second Time Around sells a range of pre-loved items, with stock changing constantly. Items for sale could include furniture, toys, sports equipment, crockery and other household items. The items for sale have been donated to Second Time Around for reuse by residents or collected from the other Reuse and Recycling Centres in the area managed by NLWA which would have otherwise been thrown away.All items in the shop are priced affordably offering residents the chance to purchase an item they need or want for a fraction of the cost they would do if purchased new. Income generated from the shop will be used to cover the cost of providing the service.
Councillor Clyde Loakes, chair of NLWA, comments, ‘It is hoped that Second Time Around will encourage the reuse of a range of items and prevent perfectly functioning pieces of furniture, or such like, from ending up in landfill or being recycled. It gives residents the opportunity to also purchase a good quality item for very little too which is always positive.’Residents wanting to use the site but not wishing to attend the launch event, may wish to visit outside of the launch event times or use another reuse and recycling centre – details of which can be found on the website below.
