I’m interested to know what exactly happens to my rubbish after it has been collected in Haringey. For example, does residual waste end up going to landfill or are there incineration/energy from waste facilities for rubbish. Do those facilities have post incineration metal collection?

Thank you for your enquiry below concerning the rubbish that is collected from Haringey. Once non-recyclable waste is picked up from your home (recycling is obviously collected and processed separately), it is taken either directly or via Hornsey Street transfer station (Islington) to the Edmonton energy-from-waste plant in North London. The facility is operated by LondonEnergy Ltd and more information about it can be found at: https://www.londonenergyltd.com/community/energy/

The waste is then incinerated. Once the waste has been incinerated the residual ‘ash’ metals are recycled and the majority of the bottom ash is also recycled into aggregates used in road building and construction projects.

Please let me know if there is any other information you need concerning this.
