Query about why Woolcool is not recyclable when the company says it is:

I live in Barnet and put the compostible Woolcool in my green garden waste bin, only to be told it had ‘contaminated’ the bin and the bin collectors refused to empty it.

I wrote to my local councillor, who in turn contacted Barnet waste dept. They have said they do not ‘recycle’ Woolcool.

If, as the makers suggest, it is completely compostible, why is it not being composted?

As far as I am aware what IS compostible in the green garden waste bin is composted, Why not Woolcool.

'no' [this material is not recyclable in the green garden bin in north London]

The difficulty will be separating the "100% felted sheep’s wool which is washed in a natural process, scoured then sealed within recyclable industry grade micro-perforated polyethylene wrap" from the polyethylene wrap. i.e. we don't have a process to separate the different components - the wool could go to composting but the polyethylene is not recyclable and we can't separate it
