Afternoon,

Further to our email acknowledging your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, our response is as follows.

You requested:

  1. Health and safety policy and any supporting guidance documents or procedures related to the health and safety policy
    2. Machinery safety policy including risk assessment procedures for machinery operations
    3. Fire safety policy including fire safety equipment
    4. Additional related documents related to fire within recycling equipment/machinery
(An e-copy of each document would work perfectly)

Our response:

NLWA does not have its own standalone Health and Safety policy. All NLWA staff are employed by Camden Council, and therefore the applicable Health and Safety policies and procedures are those of Camden Council.

Accordingly, NLWA staff are covered by Camden Council’s corporate Health and Safety framework, which sets out the organisation’s responsibilities, arrangements, and procedures for managing health and safety in the workplace.

Item 1 & 3: Information Held: The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) holds corporate policies regarding general Health and Safety and Fire Safety for our administrative functions. Please find these attached:

  • Corporate Health and Safety Policy
  • Fire Safety Policy

Item 2 & 4: Information Not Held: We can confirm that the NLWA does not hold specific policies or risk assessments regarding heavy machinery operations or fire safety within recycling machinery.

The NLWA does not directly operate heavy waste-processing machinery. These operations are carried out by our constituent councils (such as the London Borough of Camden) for collection services, or by our contractor, LondonEnergy Ltd, at the EcoPark energy-from-waste facility.

Internal Review Procedure: If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you may ask for an internal review, which should be submitted within two months of when you received our response to either informationrequests@nlwa.gov.uk or via our enquiry form quoting the reference above.

If you are not content with the outcome of the review, you may complain to the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Kind regards,

North London Waste Authority
