NLWA conference to lead the conversation on systems thinking and the circular economy

Over 600 attendees have now registered to come together this week at North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA) ninth annual Waste Prevention Exchange, making it the largest yet. Guests will include local government leaders, third sector champions, circular economy innovators and new and established businesses involved in reduction, reuse, repair, recycling, and waste management, as well as systems thinking.

Conscientious Consumer: How to Only Buy What You Need

We’ve all been guilty of buying something new because it looked great in the shop, only to find that it didn't suit or fit us well, and we only wore it once. Shopping is addictive, and as we’ve mentioned before, retailers know how to make it irresistible to us. However, by following a few simple rules, you can break the habit and start making wiser consumer choices, saving you money and reducing waste.

In a Fix

Do you have something broken at home? Mending it might not be as hard as you think. It also saves you money and is good for the environment because it means we don’t have to buy new things. We are running the ‘In a Fix’ campaign to encourage people to give repair a try, and let us know how they get on by sharing before/after photos on Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag #repairshare. You can tag us as well using @WiseUpToWaste.

Furniture

There are numerous ways to donate, sell, find or buy second-hand items such as furniture or white goods in north London, which could really make a difference to someone else’s quality of life as well as reducing the amount of furniture that goes to waste every year.
