Batteries cannot go into your general waste at home, so if the remote has a battery still inside it, or a battery you can't remove, you will need to take it to an e-waste recycling point, such as at a reuse and recycling centre (RRC) (opens in a new window).
If the remote has removeable batteries, like AA or AAA batteries, you can take these out and put the rest of the remote in your bin at home. You must make sure all batteries are removed, and the batteries themselves can't go in the bin - see our page on batteries to find where you can dispose of them, including our RRCs.
