Restrictions on hardcore, rubble, soil and stones

Each North London household can take up to six standard rubble sacks of soil/rubble to an RRC each month. This includes concrete, brick, stones, pebbles, soil, sand and gravel. A standard rubble sack is 51cm by 76cm (20 inches by 30 inches) or equivalent.

Commercial/trade waste

Trade (commercial) waste is not accepted at any of our RRCs. However, we have created a list of some local facilities that do accept trade waste. Please note that this list has been provided in good faith, but should not be taken as exhaustive or as an endorsement of the companies listed.

Materials accepted

This is a list of the main items that can be taken to this site. If you have an item not listed and are unsure whether you can take it to an RRC, use our A-Z search function:

Any household waste which is not recyclable or suitable for reuse should be placed in the container marked 'General Waste'.

Furniture reuse

Furniture provided at this RRC goes to the Reuse shop, located within the Kings Road RRC, Waltham Forest, where they are inspected and safety checked. Items in the shop are priced affordably offering residents the opportunity to get an item they need or want for a fraction of the cost if purchased new.

Furniture such as upholstered furniture without a fire label, with missing parts, damage that may make the item unsafe or which fail the quality inspection for any other reason will not be accepted at the shop, but will be sent for recycling where possible.

Charity Waste

Eligible charities can take up to five tonnes of non-hazardous waste/recycling each year, free of charge, to three of our Reuse and Recycling Centres (RRCs): Summers LaneHornsey Street or South Access (in the London boroughs of Barnet, Islington and Waltham Forest respectively). Read more on Taking Charity Waste to North London Reuse and Recycling Centres.

Materials not accepted

Asbestos is not accepted at this site. Asbestos is accepted at Hornsey Street RRC in Islington. You must pre-book with the site if you are planning to drop off asbestos. Full details can be found on the Hornsey Street RRC information page.

Alternatively, a free asbestos collection can be ordered from the City of London through their hazardous waste collection and disposal service for London residents.

Household and garden chemicals

Household and garden chemicals are not accepted at this site. The City of London provides a free hazardous waste collection service for residents in north London. For advice on hazardous waste such as household and garden chemicals please contact the City of London on 020 7332 3433 or visit their household hazardous waste webpage.

Unwanted paint

Leftover water-based paint is accepted for reuse at Regis Road RRC. This leftover paint is also available for residents to take away for free from these sites. Solvent-based waste paint is classed as hazardous waste so needs to be handled by a specialist contractor. To dispose of solvent-based paint, please contact the City of London on 020 7332 3433 or visit their household hazardous waste webpage to organise a free collection from your home.

Library of Things

There is now a ‘Library of Things’ open in Kentish Town, only a short five minute walk away from the Regis Road RRC site.

The Library of Things can help you save money and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful things like drills, sound systems and sewing machines from local spaces. You can also learn skills like DIY and repair. Find more information about this here.
