Soil and stones

Guidance
soil, gravel, sand, pebbles
Soil, sand, gravel, stones, pebbles, hardcore, rubble, concrete and brick can be taken to any north London's reuse and recycling centres (RRC), but Barrowell Green only accepts hardcore, rubble, concrete, brick and stones.
Please note that there are restrictions on the quantity that you can bring and how often you bring it:
Restrictions on rubble and hardcore
Following government reforms (opens in a new window), each household in England can only bring DIY waste capable of being fitted into two 50 litre bags, four times in any four week period. This includes hardcore, rubble, concrete, brick, stones, pebbles, soil, sand and gravel. This means that you can bring eight bags in one visit, as long as you do not visit again for another four weeks.
- If you are visiting Barrowell Green RRC: please note that you can only take hardcore, rubble, concrete, brick and stones - you cannot take pebbles, soil, sand and gravel.
- If you are visiting Hornsey Street RRC pedestrian zone: you cannot take hardcore, rubble, concrete, brick, stones, pebbles, soil, sand and gravel to the pedestrian zone. It can only be brought to the site by car or van.
- If you are bringing soil: we are not currently able to recycle soil so it would need to go in our general waste container.
If you have a large quantity of hardcore material, consider hiring a skip. You can check whether a company is legally allowed to carry waste on the Public Register of Waste Carriers (opens in a new window).
