Most plastic packaging can be recycled in north London, please just empty and rinse items first.
Items that can be recycled
- Drinks bottles (opens in a new window)
- Cosmetics bottles (opens in a new window) e.g. shampoo or shower gel
- Standard cleaning product bottles (opens in a new window) e.g. washing up liquid
- Pots, tubs, trays and punnets (opens in a new window)
Items that cannot be recycled
- Plastic wrapping/film (opens in a new window)
- Brown plastic plant pots (opens in a new window)
- Plastic toys (opens in a new window)
- Medicine blister packs (opens in a new window)
- Polystyrene (opens in a new window)
- Plastic food bags (opens in a new window) e.g. bread bags
- Plastic magazine wrapping (opens in a new window)
- Bottles containing strong chemicals (opens in a new window) e.g. anti-freeze
- Single-use plastic cutlery (opens in a new window), plates and cups
- Coat hangers (opens in a new window)
- Laminated plastic food/drink pouches (opens in a new window) e.g. baby food, cat food, or coffee pouches, but some of these can be recycled through TerraCycle (opens in a new window)
- Toothpaste tubes (opens in a new window). TerraCycle (opens in a new window) has a number of drop-off points for toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes and packaging
- Crisp and sweet packets/wrappers (opens in a new window) (some manufacturers, such as Walkers, offer a free recycling scheme. TerraCycle (opens in a new window) has a number of drop-off points where crisp packets and biscuit wrappers can be recycled).
